Chinese Star Wars
Recent revelations that China destroyed an old weather satellite 500 miles above the earth has sent shock waves through the American military establishment. This test clearly shows China's ability to challenge America's long held power in space. It is another rebuttal to the idea that China's rise to power on the world stage is benign.
Today's Wall Street Journal (sub req) said this:
China's firing of a missile to destroy an old weather satellite, some 800 kilometers above Earth, is a rude awakening. The first Gulf War taught us that control of the skies and the communication systems that whiz through them can have huge effects on the ground. Beijing development of an anti-satellite weapons system is not only a threat to military assets but also to commercial assets, such as communications and global positioning satellites, or GPS. Modern life depends heavily on space-based technology.
The article went on to say the obvious, "China is no longer an isolated Middle Kingdom. Its increasing economic integration and growing military might makes it a player on the global stage. Surprise missile shots only heighten the world's concerns about the mainland's intentions."
China has wanted a promise from America not to develop space based weaponry. Such a treaty has been oppose by the US as unenforceable and would only allow a nation like China, which uses deception in military matters, to continue development of technology such as this.
If Chinese technology is able to design and build such a weapon as this one wonders what else is in the works. China is becoming the technological workshop for the world, building and supplying computer chips for most world electronic items. This test is proof they are making great strides in software design as well. It is possible the day is approaching when America would no longer have the capacity to build the sophisticated computer chips necessary for military technology. this Chines missile test shows China's ability to knock out satellite technology, rendering armies and its machinery blind on some future battlefield.
This WNP article, China: The Lotus Flower is Blossoming Again, by Cecil Maranville gives more background to China's position and ties it in with Bible prophecy.
