Compass Point
While teaching at the Ambassador Bible Center this week I had an opportunity to meet and discuss several ideas with colleagues. One of the discussions was about taking our World News and Prophecy seminars to another level of information and egagement with our audience.
Bill Bradford, a United elder in Australia, has a plan to conduct seminars over a weekend from Friday evening to Sunday morning. Topics would cover prophecy and current events and the individual's response to God in a world heading for a crisis.
The key to understanding our world lies in knowing the points at which mankind slipped from the path God laid out from the beginning and began going his own way. Our present world is a product of those points of departure.
The first point of departure was in Eden when Adam made the choice to acquire knowledge apart from the divine revelation of God. That began man's quest for self-fulfillment without the direct involvement of his creator.
Paul said in Romans 1:28 "...they did not like to retain God in their knowledge...". That is where it all begins, keeping God in our thoughts and plans. But it must be on a right foundation to lead to the ultimate goal of eternal salvation.
God desires to give us eternal life in His kingdom. Doing so requires we learn how to live in harmony with His mind, character and will. It means we choose to follow the path He lays out for life. And we choose each day to follow that path. This column, Longitude, has the purpose to help you stay focused n that path.
Is the Sky Falling on America?
Victor Davis Hanson is right, America always seems to pull itself away from the brink of great decline by looking hard at itself and making adjustments. Despite all the problem signs today, and there are many, America still is the leader in innovation and design of new products and technology.
This article does not address the deep moral and spiritual problems in our society, nor does it factor in the hand of God as the ultimate guide of our national affairs. American exceptionalism is due to the blessing of God, not just our innate abilities and ingenuity.
Iran 'three to eight years' away from nuclear weapon
This article from the Guardian says Iran is closer than most think to realizing its goals of a nuclear weapon. Does anyone really know what is gong on in that country?
Meanwhile America is racheting up its military presence off the coast of Iran with the entry of two aircraft carriers. Teddy Roosevelt would be pleased.
