Landed in Germany
I am on a trip to Germany spending some time with WNP writer and UCG pastor in Germany, Paul Kieffer. After twenty two years absence I thought it time to return to a country we often write about in the pages of WNP.
I landed in Dusseldorf this morning after a flight from Atlanta. Paul met me at the airport and we boarded a train for the four hour trip to Berlin. The city is undergoing a lot of constuction and many new buildings are going up. We walked through the Brandenburg Gate and saw the remnants of the old Berlin Wall that divided the city between 1961 and 1989. I was reminded that walls as a matter of foreign policy never completely work. They are short term solutions to deeper problems. But they never comprise the final solution.
We toured the Reichstag building and walked up into the glass dome that gives you a magnificent view of the city. Berlin is the seat of the unified German government and the renovated building is the center piece of a new government complex that houses the workings of the German legislature.
We'll be here through Friday and will file another report tomorrow.
