Checking for Planks
We can easily see why it is someone else's fault that a problem occurs in a relationship, but can we see how our behavior contributed to the problem? Did we overreact, or did we perhaps not understand the other person's perspective?
We are admonished in God's Word to first remove the plank from our own eye so that we can then be able to help our brother with the speck in his eye (Matthew 7:3-5). When we look at our own culpability in a situation first, we may be able to approach the other person with a more compassionate and humble attitude.
