Old Money
One of the phenomena of the human realm is that we never seem to have enough. Solomon spoke of the eye not being tired of seeing or the ear of hearing (Ecclesiastes 1:8), but it is ridiculous to see a person on his deathbed, still striving to increase his fortunes. Why increase our supplies for a trip that is about to end?
Generosity is an attitude that reflects God’s nature, while hoarding gold and taking it into the grave as the ancient Egyptians did is absurd. The parable of the rich man in Luke 12:15-21 explains this. God does not condemn wealth, but he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God, is a fool (Luke 12:21).
