The Bible prophesies an end-time figure who opposes Christ—the Antichrist—but the meaning of the term antichrists encompasses more than just the end time. This term literally means "against Christ" and is variously defined as "adversary of Christ" or "opponent of Christ" and as a title or proper name for a specific individual who opposes and claims to be Christ.

The Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament Based on Semantic Domains by Louw and Nida offers a more comprehensive definition:

"The term . . . appears to have become increasingly equivalent to a proper name as the personification of all that was opposed to and contrary to the role and ministry of Christ."

According to the apostle John's writing, there is a spirit of antichrist, which is a spirit of opposition to the identity of Christ. Specifically, he was writing to warn of the dualistic heresy that denied that Christ lived as a physical human being (1 John 4:3; 2 John 1:7).

The Bible does not reveal specifically who the Antichrist is, speaking instead of his corrupt teachings.

In the first century, most people of Jewish background anticipated a Messiah who would come to the earth as a conquering king to establish the Kingdom of God. But they failed to understand that He would first come as a man who would become the sacrifice for the sins of mankind, and they refused to accept Jesus as the Messiah. (The word Messiah is the Hebrew counterpart to the Greek word Christ.) Their doctrine was an example of a spirit of antichrist.

Today, many members of mainstream Christianity make the opposite mistake from the one that the Jews made by accepting that Christ became the perfect sacrifice for sin but denying His coming to the earth as a conquering king. So ironically, even that traditional Christian doctrine can be classified as "antichrist."

End-time prophecies show that religious people—including professing Christians deceived into accepting a counterfeit Christianity—will oppose many of the teachings of Christ. In that real sense, even today, many professing Christians actually have been deceived by a spirit of antichrist.

The Bible does not reveal specifically who the Antichrist is, speaking instead of his corrupt teachings. In 2 Thessalonians 2, Paul prophesied of a "man of sin," a liar and deceiver whose natural abilities Satan enhances by supernatural power in order to confuse people in the end time. In addition, Christ inspired John to write of a "false prophet" to come at the end time (Revelation 13:1-18; Revelation 16:13; Revelation 19:20).

Finally, note how the prophecy describes a great religious leader of the end time: "He had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon" (Revelation 13:11). That is to say, he takes on the image of (or imitates) Jesus Christ (the Lamb of God), but is empowered by Satan. Historically, a counterfeit version of Christianity fulfills the types we read of in the prophecies of Revelation.

You are a typical misled deceived Trinitarian. There's not a Trinitarian formula in the bible, and you are doing just what Satan wants you to do....judge others over a doctrine that has evil roots. You people claim that the trinity doctrine is inexplicable and incomprehensible yet you claim people who don't accept it are condemned.

The trinity doctrine is evil. It has done absolutely NOTHING for the advancement of the Church other than divide it. People like YOU condemn those of us who know better than to accept a doctrine the Catholic Church devised and use to kill people for not accepting it.
The minister of evil who many still follow today, John Calvin once beheaded a man for not believing it. Jesus said, "the Father is Greater" and that's what we believe.

    Hello James,
I don't think so (although John says there are "many antichrists" 1 John 2: 18)
Instead for that One Big endtime Antichrist I think we need to look elsewhere.
The Bible says quite a bit. How about:
    Matt 24: 5, 23 & 24; Rom 8: 9, 10; 2 Thess 2: 3--12; 1 John 4: 1--3;2 John 7;Rev 6: 1-2
There is, of course, much more!

  • Reverend Jim

That would be incorrect. The KJV has 1 John mistranslated...

"Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time."

If you look at this in the interlinear, (many other versions also have it translated correctly) the first word 'antichrist' is singular and CAPITALIZED, the second is plural and NOT capitalized. That indicates that one MAN is coming in the end. i.e. "the Antichrist is coming." The correct translation is found in several other translations like the "New King James" which reads...

"Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the[c] Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. "

I believe in God; but I don't believe everything that is in the Bible. It has been recreated & misinterpreted many many times. Jesus was God come to Earth in human form to try to save us, & give sinners a way of having their sins forgiven, if they believed in him. Love one another, & know that you are one with God; to me, that's all that I need to know. Be at peace, & love, nothing else.

  • Lizbeth2017

Glenn, have you done anything that makes you feel like you could never be forgiven? If not, please see a doctor. And I mean mental health doctor there's nothing wrong with going to see one. This article mentions that there is a fake Christianity that is more concerned with how Jesus sacrifice for our sins instead of his return to earth. That is really what's happening. You're obviously a good person and very concerned of doing the right thing. God is a God good. Stop listening to people to make crazy. You may want to see a doctor I would suggest it . Don't let anybody make you feel guilty about going to see one may be a chemical imbalance .

This antichrist will be a man living some where in he the world waiting his time or he might not know he going to be the antichrist the bible foretell of his coming. He is or will be in the line or some church leader that the world will follow him and believe what ever

  • Diana Bangerter

    Sounds like Pope Francis?

  • Lizbeth2017

I don't understand how you can say the pope, I haven't seen him do anything or say anything even close to what Donald Trump is saying. I think the spirit of the anti-Christ is in Trump and also on Fox news . They're the ones that have everyone fooled. And if you really read this article and try to understand what he says you will see the truth.

  • Lorajackson005

You're right. Trump is the Anti-Christ. May God have mercy on all those mislead souls.

  • Coltonsalaznews

Thank you for making sense out of this article and actually reading it. And I commend you for not instilling false biased in your comment like others have. To say Pope Francis is the anti-Christ is tantamount of saying the Dalai Lama is. Or the Queen of England because she is the head of the Church of England.

  • aeutwo

The beast is the roman catholic church. The antichrist is the pope. Claiming to be God on earth as described in the book of Revelation. The roman catholic church has corrupted the church and has made many to believe that the Sabbath day is in Sunday but is actually in Saturday. The reason for this is because Babylonians worshipped the sun god. Taking our true Sabbath day and making it their worship day of the devil. "Sun-day" The reason is because Satan knew by corrupting the church and changing the Sabbath day to Sunday would not only mean Christians would be breaking one of the ten commandments but in turn be worshipping the Babylonian day of sun worship. From 538AD to 1798AD (3.5 year reign translated to 1260 earth years) Christians were killed off during the dark ages and the primary time of the beast.

  • Ed Russo

I don’t think it’s toward any specific group. I believe its hypocrisy. Whether its Baptist, catholic, Lutheran, or any other sect. Jesus teachings is about love, so I think the anti Christ is any one who wears the mask of love while teaching or practicing hate. So its much closer to home than one realizes. and sadly many political religious leaders are teaching and promoting hate.

  • Coltonsalaznews

First of all this is highly in accurate. The Catholic Church is first denomination of Christianity until King Henry VIII and Queen Anne Boleyn broke from the papacy in the 16th century. Moreover as it pertains to the Sabath. Majority of Christians adopted the Sabbath as Sunday according to the Gregorian Calendar (which is looking the mondern day calendar for western civilizations.) Sunday is the first day of the week, not the seventh. The Catholic Church adopted this as a meaning of rebirth and beginning. Not the misconception of "God rested on the Seventh Day" which would be Saturday. Jews and Muslims observe the Sabath in the Seventh day (Saturday). Moreover, the Pope (not his actual title) is not "God on Earth" he is selected by Cardinals during Conclave as "The Bishop of Rome, Soverign of the country of Vatican City, and as the leader of 1.2 billion Catholics world wide. Pope Francis is expected, for Catholics, as the representative of Gods presence among subscribers of Catholicism. Not once has he claimed to be "God on Earth." Moreover, God, Jesus Christ & the Anti-Christ are three separate entities. Please do research before posting nonsense on here.

  • Reverend Jim

The Catholic Church, Rome, or the EU will have absolutely nothing to do with the end-time anti-Christ or his kingdom. All end-time prophecies point to ISLAM. There's not ONE verse of bible prophecy that points to either Rome, Catholicism, or Europe.

  • vanquishedlight

actually, there is no religion that is safe, only true believers. it don't matter what label you put on your beliefs. being Christian, jewish, muslim, or catholic has 0 effect on you going with god. if you want to go with god, find the truth in your self. be truthful to yourself, and keep the faith of god. god is in the person, not the religious label people give them selves.

  • Malachi 3_16-18
Dear Jorge123, Please take heart. If you are very concerned about your salvation, that is a good starting point. I don’t know your circumstances, but all of us are doomed to eternal death (not ever-burning hell fire, though) unless we believe in Jesus Christ, accept His sacrifice for our sins, and truly repent and follow up on that repentance and faith by being baptized (Rom 3:23; 6:23; Acts 2:36-39). If you feel, as some do at times, that you have committed the “unpardonable sin”, then you probably haven’t committed it, if you are sincerely very concerned about it, and want to make things right with God. Our loving Father is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Pet 3:9), and He is full of mercy and compassion (Ps 103:8-14). Sometimes, even when God forgives us, it is hard to forgive ourselves for certain sins. Sin causes natural consequences, sometimes long-lasting, but when God has forgiven us, we must learn to forgive ourselves, or it will cripple us from any type of growth and from pleasing our Father (2 Pet 3:18; Prov 24:16). I strongly recommend contacting one of our caring and compassionate ministers in your area, who will be able to help you further. You can find one at this link: http://www.ucg.org/find-congregation/ Praying for you.

Glenn, You need to understand that the devil is losing his battle with God for you and he knows it. He is trying to hold onto everyone he can because he knows his time is soon coming to an end. I received Jesus, as my savior, just a few weeks ago and the devil has tormented me ever since. When he harasses me I just say, devil I rebuke you in the name of Jesus and the Lord makes him leave me alone. You are a child of God and you must ask God to forgive your sins and live according to the ten commandments. It is not easy but if you hold fast, your reward will be great. I will pray for you and have the faith that you will be fine. The devil is tricky,he knows our deepest fears and plays on them but remember he is fast coming to an end. So hold onto God because he is the ultimate answer!! Praise the Lord!!!

Glenn, I hope you are still able to receive this message, and are able to understand. In this battle against the spirit realm, you need every good tool that is capable of helping you regain the peace of mind that you seek. Surprisingly, some physical medicines designed to restore chemical balance to your brain (by limiting fight/flight chemicals induced by fear for example), can actually assist you in regaining a peaceful, sound mind. Since it is also a spiritual issue, which you described as a "curse" related to habitual sin in its later stages, there is no better substitute for the peace and forgiveness you seek than to turn whole-heartedly to the LORD GOD. As others have suggested, the Psalms are one of the most healing books in the Bible that you can read and fervently pray along with. Perhaps, you can relate to Psalm 107's people whose "soul melts because of trouble" and who "are at their wits' end. Then they cry out to the LORD in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm... Then they are glad because they are quiet; so He guides them to their desired haven" (107:26-30, NKJV). "This poor man cried out, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles" (Psalm 34:6). More than anything right now, you need to: "Trust in the LORD... and feed on His faithfulness" (Psalm 37:3, NKJV). There is no evil spirit in the entire universe that is greater than GOD (John 10:29, Luke 10:18), and GOD's voice is the only spirit you should listen to (John 10:27-29, 3-5; see also Romans 8:38-39). The LORD GOD does not take any pleasure in the death of the sinful, but would much rather that they turn to Him and live (Ezekiel 18:23, 31-32). Yes, "...seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in distress, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, when you turn to the LORD your God and obey His voice (for the LORD your God is a merciful God)..." (Deuteronomy 4:29-31a). Do not lose heart, but believe in the goodness of the LORD (Psalm 27:13-14). "You, O LORD, are a shield for me... I cried to the LORD with my voice, and He heard me from His holy hill... I lay down and slept; I awoke for the LORD sustained me" (Psalm 3:3-5). "I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety" (Psalm 4:8).

Time out! Alright. First, this sounds to me like a chemistry imbalance in your brain and body. Glenn, have you been having sleepless nights? When anyone goes without sleep for long periods of time they start to imagine crazy things; and have nightmares when they do finally sleep. Once you get back to sleeping again you will be able to think more clearly and stop the panic attacks. Now as for your spiritual growth. Make or buy a journal, it's time to write down your feelings. Read the Book of Psalms. There you will learn how King David wrote down his fears and concerns to the LORD. King David is a good example of how to release inner feelings. However, remember that Jesus said to love your enemies and those that despitefully use you. So, if your feel hate, ask God the Father to help you with it. What you need to do is learn how to forgive yourself like we all do. We have all sinned. We all must repent. When you gain control of your thoughts and get the much needed rest you need; these crazy visions will stop coming. You may need some medical assistance to help you sleep at night if this is what is happening to you at this time. God loves each and everyone of us, however, He calls us to obey Him. We must all come to Him with a willing heart of obedience. Anything that is worth fighting for; does not come easy in this life. Otherwise it wouldn't be worth it in the end if it was easy. Like for instance: You are a teen wanted a new car, your parents just give it to you. Will you appreciate that new car? Or would you have an additude of; I wreck it, my parents will buy me a new one. Now, if you had to work for that same car; wouldn't you take better care of it because you had to foot the bill? So don't panic. You will be ok as you look to God the Father for help through, prayer, journaling, seeking medical help (if you need it),and bible study. Here is a link to one of our booklets to start you off. You can order it on-line. http://www.ucg.org/booklet/transforming-your-life-process-conversion/
