Will people be working during the Millennium?

The Bible tells us that those who respond to God during this age will be rulers in the coming Kingdom of God (Revelation 1:6; 2:26). Of course there will be many additional jobs for those living during the 1,000 years after Christ returns. Some of the jobs will be in the field of agriculture (Amos 9:13). Others will be involved in reclaiming wealth from the sea (Isaiah 60:5), turning war implements into productive tools (Isaiah 2:4) and rebuilding (Isaiah 58:12).

Additionally, Isaiah 65:17-22 (a time period beyond the Millennium), indicates that people will be building houses and planting vineyards. Verse 22 says that God's elect (those who respond to Him) will "long enjoy the work of their hands." Being productive, through work, is obviously something we hope to continue doing long into the future.

    Hi

    This is an interesting topic. The bible tells us that almost all of mankind, will have a chance to be saved. Therefore after the millennium, there will be billions of people resurrected to live out there lives here on earth. The 1000 yrs prior, will be a time when the earth has to be prepared for these people to live physically, here on earth under, Christ's rule. So it looks like there is going to be a busy time for everyone during the millennium, preparing this earth for the last great day. What an exciting time there is ahead for mankind.

    Anthony,

    There is strong evidence throughout the prophets that there will still be flesh-and-blood people who are not yet glorified during the 1000 years and that God will teach those people His way. For example, Zechariah 14:16-19 shows that there will be a period of Christ's reign on earth from Jerusalem, and that people will be traveling there each year to worship Him at the Feast of Tabernacles. The punishment for the nations who don't go will be that they will not get any rain. Additionally, Isaiah 30:20-21 implies that there will be a time where "teachers" will be watching people and warning them when they are about to sin, and these teachers could quite possibly be the resurrected saints.

    Go and read the entire book of Isaiah with the mindset of trying to determine what the millennium will be like and you will find many, many more passages that you may have glossed over before will really stand out and show that there will be physical people on the earth worshiping Christ and learning God's way for the first time.

    In response to Anthony Ciambriello's question, Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 "We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died. )16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died(1 )will rise from their graves. 17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever" (New Living Translation).

    And in 1 Corinthians 15:51 we read, "We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed -- 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed."

    Finally in Philippians 3:21, "He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own...." (NLT).

    Physical human beings who survive the Great Tribulation and Day of the Lord will still be on earth durng the millennium. God's people down through the ages who are resurrected and/or changed from flesh to spirit will assist Jesus Christ in teaching these mortal humans about God and help them to accept and live by the laws of God.

    After Christ returns, the first resurrection will glorify all the dead in Christ, but what will happen to the people who are still alive at the time of his return. will they remain as physical humans or will they also be glorified. Will there be any physical humans left for the 1000 yr reign or will everyone be in a glorified state?

    Many know that God will resurrect the saints at Christ’s return, but most read right over Christ’s teachings about a second resurrection. The Scriptures are plain about the fact that all people have only one chance at salvation. However, a second chance at life is not the same as a second chance at salvation. Coming to life again will enable them to have their only chance for salvation. Jesus said, "the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God's Son, and they will rise again. Those who have done good will rise to experience eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to experience judgment (John 5:28-29, NLT).

    Judgment is multifaceted. God is in the process of judging Christians today (1 Peter 4:17). Drawing a parallel with human courts, judgment involves the gathering of evidence, weighing or evaluating that evidence and the passing of a final sentence. Anyone, living or dead, whose mind God did not open to spiritual understanding hasn’t begun the judgment process that ends with a decision (sentence) of eternal life or of death (not eternal torment in an ever-burning fire).

    Of those to be brought to life in the second resurrection, Jesus said it would be “more tolerable” for some than for others (Matthew 10:15). If God resurrects these people only to sentence them to death, Christ’s comments wouldn’t make any sense. If all were to die, judgment would not be “more tolerable” for one than for another. But clearly, their judgment is incomplete, and hence, God brings them back to physical life, at which time, He calls them to salvation and begins to judge them in the way that He is now judging the Church.
