Pastor's Note & Announcements for October 23, 2021

Greetings Brethren,

While preparing this week’s sermon I came across this quote that I found very interesting by Art Turock, a business speaker and corporate consulting expert. I encourage you all to think about this quote and read through the book of Haggai as it will be the subject I will be presenting tomorrow.

“There’s a difference between interest and commitment. When you’re interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstances permit. When you’re committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.” Art Turock

Have a Wonderful Sabbath

  3. Louis & Carol Petit: Both Louis and Carol are still recovering from Covid. Louis has Pneumonia and has started treatment. Carole has a slight cough, but the doctor reported that she doesn’t have pneumonia. Due to her recent problems, he also checked her heart and reported that she didn’t detect any afib or heart issues either. As a cautionary effort she is still going to do the echocardiogram and then follow up with cardiologist following week.
  4. Killian Evans: The doctors removed the Cpap removed this week as if was causing abdomen issues and so far so good! His belly size has gone down so removing it has made a big difference, he is still breathing on his own and levels are staying pretty good. Please continue to keep Killian and the entire family in your prayers.
  5. John Williamson: John Williamson Update: Please keep John in your prayers as the new drug they intend to use for his cancer treatment has a lot of side effects. Address -Williamson 370 Glenside Lane, Powell, OH 43065
  6. Rhoda Gabriel: Rhoda continues to improve, but is still very weak and has no appetite.
  7. Please continue to keep all our brethren in your prayers as so many are dealing with the Covid virus at this time as well as other sickness.
  8. Winter Family Weekend 2021 Postponed: After prayer and careful consultation, it has been decided not to hold Winter Family Weekend this year. We are very disappointed that we are unable to host this year, but we know it’s the right option based on the information we have today. This decision was not made casually, considering Winter Family Weekend is such an enjoyable family event to which so many in the Church look forward. Yet, following increased concern for health and safety, we felt this was the best way to proceed at this time. We know that this will come as an enormous disappointment to so many, but our primary concern is the responsibility we feel toward the brethren of the Church. So this year, think of Winter Family Weekend not simply cancelled, but postponed until next year. We can look forward to that time when we can all come together to enjoy a time of faith, fellowship and fun. - Steve Myers, pastor, Cincinnati, OH
  9. Winter Camp 2021 Postponed: Although Winter Camp is always such a wonderful time for our teens and staff to learn, fellowship and have fun, the decision has been made to “postpone” Winter Camp until next year. In light of the difficulties experienced with COVID-19 among our Church members at the present time, and our sincere desire to protect our teenagers, parents, family members and staff, we believe it is prudent to wait until conditions are better in regard to the pandemic. With only about two months until Winter Camp, we are concerned things may not change a whole lot and it is our desire to “play it safe.” We will certainly plan to resume Winter Camp in December 2022 and, God willing, it will be a reality for us. I am disappointed in having to make this decision (in consultation with the President, the Council and the United Youth Camps director, Steve Nutzman) since I see the great value in these camps for our teens and for UCG, but safety has always been our first priority at camp. Thanks to everyone for your understanding, especially our teenagers and young adults who serve on staff. We greatly appreciate the excellent job our Winter Camp director, Aaron Creech, did last year. He was very willing to direct camp this year and is also disappointed that this decision needed to be made. - Mark Welch, Ministerial and Member Services
  10. We are considering having our follow-up congregational & committee meetings on October 30th. However, with all the sickness that we are experiencing, we may have to reschedule until everyone is fully recovered. Please let me know if you will be able to attend or if you would like to see it postponed. Thx
  11. Note: The potluck that’s scheduled for October 23 has been moved to October 30th.
