Updates on Daytona Feast Planning: Family Day at Daytona Lagoon—Advanced Ticket Sales; Need for Volunteers; Housing Reservations Reminder

Public

This will be a fairly long post, but I wanted to bring you up to date on a number of things pertaining to the Daytona Feast Site.

In this email, there is information about the Family Day activity that is scheduled for Thursday, September 23, and what you will need to do in advance regarding that.

First, though, we want to thank those of you who have already volunteered to serve in various areas, but we find we need additional help in a few key areas:

Ushering

If you would like to serve in this area this year, please feel free to email Doug Wendt, who is our Assistant Coordinator, at bdwendt1@gmail.com.

Special Services

(In case you don’t know what “Special Services” are, these are those who will assist those who need help into the meeting rooms (elderly, mothers with small children, wheelchairs, or other).

I hope that perhaps several of our young adults and older teens might volunteer to assist in this area.  If you are interested in helping out, we would appreciate it. Please email Bob McCurdy at ram19@bellsouth.net.

Youth Lessons

We have Youth Lessons (ages 5-12) scheduled for two days of the Feast.  We need more volunteers to teach and assist, and if  anyone has experience or would like to coordinate the Youth Lessons function and would like to help in this area, please let me know.  FYI, we have around 70 youngsters who will be in the program this year.

Now, regarding the planned Family Day activity

The Daytona Lagoon is a combined water park and Family Entertainment Center (FEC) with miniature golf, go karts, laser tag, a ropes course for youngsters, and an arcade of all sorts of video and arcade games all in one location, adjacent to the Ocean Center.   The water park features a wave pool, splash pad and pool for smaller children, and several large water slides that will be open to us.  You can see all the park has to offer on its website at daytonalagoon.com.

We have contracted with Daytona Lagoon to have exclusive use of the water park and FEC for Family Day, which will be Thursday, September 23.   Last year, this activity drew overwhelming positive reviews from the more than 400 Feast-goers who attended.  It really is a nice facility with “something for everyone.”

The pricing for this activity includes unlimited use of the water park and Family Entertainment Center for four hours (from 2-6 that day).  There will be no extra cost for any activity or game you play.   The concession areas will be open so you can purchase food and drinks, but these are not included in the ticket price.

Because the park has to staff adequately for our group, we have made a sizable deposit to “buy the park out,” and we need to commit to this event by August 23.

The all-inclusive price for this activity will be $36 per person, for persons 32 inches and taller.   This represents a 33% discount from regular price.  (For Daytona Lagoon insurance purposes, some activities are not available for those, regardless of age, who are less than 32 inches tall.   Accordingly, while those may use the wave pool and several activities in the FEC, there is no charge for them when accompanied by a paying adult).

We are asking that those who will be interested in this activity to purchase tickets in advance.  Accordingly, in a few days, go to “posts” under the Daytona Feast site at feast.ucg.org, and you will find the Pay Pal button to purchase tickets.

There may be some who would like to donate to this event, even though they might not attend, in order to help others attend who may not be able to afford it.  On the Pay Pal page, there will be a button to make such a donation.

Thank you in advance for your support and for buying tickets ahead of time so we know this activity can be fully funded.

Finally, one last reminder about housing

Most of the discount prices you see in the Festival brochure will expire July 31.  If you have not made your housing reservations, please do so this week.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me.
