Agona Cassava Mill
Our visit to the Agona church property provided us opportunity to see the recently completed cassava mill in action. The cassava mill project was designed to benefit the brethren in Ghana by providing them opportunity to generate additional funds through the processing and sale of cassava. Cassava is a tuberous root which grows virtually year round and is a regular part of the Ghanaian diet. The cassava root is run through a grinder, pressed and then cooked to remove all moisture, thus producing a flour which can be baked into many goods. The cassava mill currently employs around 10 individuals on a regular basis. It also provides a commodity that can be sold in the local markets. The cassava grinders have been built in such a manner that they are portable and can be transported to various regions in order to process the cassava crops outside of Agona as well. The funds from this mill benefit the local congregations, as well as educational scholarships and secondary incomes to a number of church families in the region.
