It was only six years ago that Alexander Schweitzer, a freshman in Waunakee, Wisconsin, became interested in ballroom dancing. Shortly thereafter he began taking lessons at a nearby dance academy.

This year marked the 30th anniversary of these events, and entrants came from as far away as Florida, California and Massachusetts to compete. Last year Alexander took first place in all nine dance categories he entered. This year he competed at a higher level but reduced the number of categories to five so he could devote more time to practicing for the advanced level of competition. The dances he performed were foxtrot (full silver), Viennese waltz (open full bronze), waltz (open full silver), cha-cha (open silver), and rumba (open full silver).

Dancing takes a lot of hard work, but nothing rewards hard work like the accomplishment. Alexander again repeated his first place successes in every dance category he entered this year. 

Alexander is the grandson of Jim and Shirley Buckmaster and attends the Wisconsin Dells congregation.
