Marriage Enrichment Workshop

The workshop was held at the Comfort Inn Capital Beltway in Beltsville, Maryland, the weekend of May 21-22, 2016.

The weekend started with Sabbath services followed by biblically based marriage workshops on Sabbath afternoon and evening, and Sunday morning. The workshops were presented by pastor of the Dayton, Ohio, congregation, Frank McCrady, and his wife Sonja.

The couples received a scripturally sound and encouraging workshop. These 19 couples received resources to help lead them to a happy marriage, specifically how to apply the biblical principles. There were several opportunities for discussion between husbands and wives. Couples were even given homework to complete on Saturday night before the session on Sunday morning. Of course this homework was worthwhile as it could only benefit each couple if completed. These workshops helped couples with communication, building a better relationship with God, and ultimately, their spouses.

Thank you to the McCradys for being willing to share their knowledge with all of the couples.

Were there any gay couples? If so, good for them. What are your views on homosexuality?

    Hi John,

The United Church of God teaches that homosexuality is a sin, and the Word of God is completely clear on this in both the Old and New Testaments (see, for example, Leviticus 18:22 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-11). We should therefore treat it as all other sin - just as people can be tempted to steal, to lie, or to commit adultery, they can also be tempted to engage in homosexual acts. People who are faced with this temptation should repent, which means being determined not to act on those desires any more. Searching in the UCG.org search box for "homosexuality" and just skimming the titles of the articles will show you that we make an effort to distinguish between a person who is actively living a gay lifestyle (that is, one who has embraced their homosexual desires and therefore disagrees with God that these are wrong) and a person who simply struggles with same-sex attraction (SSA). Different people struggle with different sins - some people just never have a strong desire to steal, while for others it becomes a compulsion. The calling of God is to overcome ALL sin, homosexuality included.
