Report: Malawi Visit
Members came from the congregations in Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mzuzu. Each day consisted of two morning sessions with lunch provided on-site for all who attended and then followed by two afternoon sessions.
Steve Myers presented the seminars with topics for Thursday’s sessions included “Being a True Disciple”, “What is a Servant?”, “The Character of a Christian”, and “Commitment”. Each session had a short Q&A following.
On Friday morning sessions revolved around the topics of responsibility and choosing growth. In the afternoon, a round table discussion was held considering strengths and growth areas of each congregation. The congregations met separately and then combined and discussed the questions together. Everyone was engaged and openly discussed ways to continue to grow individually and collectively as God’s people. We closed the day with a session on taking personal responsibility.
Sabbath began with morning services at 10 a.m. Special music was a highlight with several selections presented. After lunch that was provided for all the members, we divided men and women into discussion groups. Steve Myers led the men’s discussion seminar on “Committed to the Cause”, how to be like David’s mighty men of 2 Samuel 23.
Kathe Myers led a discussion with the ladies at the same time on “Serving in Time of Need”. It focused on how to be helpful, comforting, encouraging and supportive to others. Overcoming some of the cultural drawbacks were discussed and how to move to action to help others experiencing trials.
The final leadership session stressed moving forward to be submitted and committed to God by being intentional and deliberate in our actions as Christians. We discussed what it means to be a living sacrifice and how it looks in practice.
As the seminar ended it became very obvious that the spirit of God connects His people together, wherever they may be. God’s people in Malawi are warm and friendly demonstrating that we truly are one body and that the fellowship of the spirit binds us all closely together.
