Sacramento, California, Congregation Honors Its "Octogenarian" Members
The Sacramento, California, congregation honored their “octogenarians” on the Sabbath of July 23, 2011. As one fourth of the congregation, Sacramento has been blessed with the wisdom and fine examples of these 80+ year-olds. The oldest member—Ken Jackson at 95—was the only one unable to attend the celebration, but he watched it on a webcast, so he felt like he was there.
The Sabbath began with an apropos sermon by the pastor, Joe Horchak, on respecting and honoring the elderly. That was followed by an interesting, interactive Bible study on the Ten Commandments.
Crystal Trone was the emcee for the event where she introduced the “Guess Who” game. An enjoyable slide show of photos from the senior members’ childhoods were shown, as several facts were read about each mystery person. The congregation got every answer correct!
To top off the event, a synopsis of each member’s positive attributes and unique characteristics were read, as they received a special gift of their favorite scriptures set in a decorative frame.
The “octogenarian” celebration was an extremely encouraging and fun event for all the senior participants as well as for the entire congregation.
