Salt Lake City Ski Weekend
The best snow on earth is claimed to be in Utah, and there are many who would agree. Some who attended the Salt Lake City Ski Weekend on Jan. 17-18 used words such as phenomenal, epic, perfect, and awesome to describe the snow conditions on the slopes of Brighton Ski Resort, about 30 miles from downtown Salt Lake City. Visitors from Ohio, Texas, Florida and California began arriving on Thursday—and some stayed until the following Tuesday—enjoying the warm hospitality of the Salt Lake City congregation and the amazing vistas of the Wasatch Mountains.
Frank McCrady, pastor of the Dayton and Cincinnati North congregations and a faculty member of Ambassador Bible College, was the guest speaker on the Sabbath. He spoke about friendship and drew lessons from the example of Barnabas as a way for us to learn to be a great friend to others. The first message was given by Roc Corbett, pastor of the Salt Lake City and Las Vegas congregations, encouraging everyone to stop during the day, look around at the wonderful creation, and verbally praise the Lord, as we see in Psalm 148. Several skiers commented afterward how doing so from a beautiful vantage point on the mountain really helped them to appreciate God more.
The weekend was rounded out by a great potluck after services followed by a very joyful game night, and a great “chili dinner” on Sunday after a full day on the slopes. We had 49 members and visitors enjoying this rejuvenating time together, and the Salt Lake City congregation hopes that next year even more visitors will be able to join us, and make this an annual event.
