Women's Education Task Force Formed
The Women's Education Task Force (WETF), under the direction of the Education Task Force and Ministerial Services, held its first meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio, from April 21 to 23.
The mission of this task force is to encourage women's education and strengthen women's understanding of and commitment to their biblical roles. Future tasks of the WETF include identifying and assessing current UCG women's educational initiatives, programs and resources, and surveying the women to determine their educational wants and needs.
Members of the WETF are Gloria Carey, Colene Erickson, DeLee Hargrove, Dee Kilough (chairwoman), Ina McLemore, Karen Meeker, Marjolaine Meeker, Pam Myers, Erin Roscoe, Barbara Sackett, Kay Schreiber and Judy Servidio.
This diverse group of women vary in ages from the mid-20s to early 70s. They were chosen partly to represent many demographics including international experience and perspectives, young professional, single women (through divorce, widowhood, etc.), working mothers, urban and rural lifestyles, children still at home, empty nesters, married, grandmothers, experience with chronic health issues, home schoolers, etc.
Attendee's Comments
Karen Meeker, from St. Charles, Missouri, stated, "I was really struck by the experience and the talent that the group represented and the desire that each member expressed to help women discover their true roles in their walk with God."
Barbara Sackett, from Olympia, Washington, said, "I think we accomplished quite a bit. We got acquainted, created a plan and worked hard, but with all the positive attitudes and excitement of working together, it seemed more like fun than hard work."
The members of the WETF are excited about this opportunity and are looking forward to serving our women in the months and years to come. UN
