Senderos De Amor Orphanage -- Honduras
Providing capital improvements for an orphanage in Honduras
This project will provide funding for capital improvements for an orphanage in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The improvements include daily operational items such as a washer and dryer, refrigerator, stove, kitchen utensils, cribs, mattress and bed sheets, storage chests, ceiling fans, and one small air conditioner for special needs sleeping quarters. Eleven of these boys suffer from physical or mental illnesses that causes special concerns in their care.
This project will help improve the standard of living for 52 boys, (ranging in age from four to 17 years) being abandoned by their birth parents in varied public places (hospitals and government facilities) and taken in by this nonprofit and non-denomination entity. The orphanage gets a limited government stipend ($75,000 per year) for its operational budget. It does not have any substantial outside funding sources to aid in its upkeep and is currently suffering from deteriorating and dilapidated equipment and living quarters. Our hope is to normalize the living environment so that the residents may be successful in the transition into adulthood at the end of their stay.
