Portsmouth & Prestonsburg Retreat to Strengthen Bonds of Fellowship
Greenbo Lake, Kentucky—During the weekend of May 20-22, 65 brethren from the Portsmouth, Ohio, and Prestonsburg, Kentucky, congregations had the opportunity to gather for their annual spring retreat. We met at the beautiful Greenbo Lake State Resort Park in Kentucky and focused on how to “Get Out of the Boat!” with attention on Matthew 14:22-33. Activities started with an interactive Bible study Friday evening in which the participants took the acronym BOATS and came up with a multitude of words and scriptures related to the topic of faith.
Saturday morning, we gathered for a seminar and roundtable discussion on the focus scriptures. This was followed by an escape room activity in which teams were competing for a position as a disciple! (The winning team with 1 minute, 52 seconds to spare was composed of Lisa McKinney, Shyanne Call, Reggie Warren and Seth McKinney). Sabbath school was held prior to Sabbath services, both of which were about the various aspects of faith. After services, all of the brethren met for a delicious turkey dinner prepared by the resort.
During the Sabbath evening, people joined together for three service projects: making sock cupcakes for a local women’s senior citizen facility, painting “Kindness Rocks” to be distributed around our communities and cutting out denim shoe pieces for people in Uganda. This was followed by a movie and fresh cookies.
The next morning, people packed up and prepared to go home. We’re already looking forward to next year!
