Be Discreet
To be prudent and wary of the words we use is a sign of a wise and thoughtful person. It is said that in the mouth of a discreet person, even a public thing is private. In other words, even if something may be public knowledge, the discreet person will not always be found talking about it if it might be uncomfortable for others. Psalm 112:5 informs us that a good man will conduct his affairs with discretion. It was this quality that made the pharaoh of Egypt select Joseph as his right-hand man centuries ago (Genesis 41:39).
We all know people who must comment on every issue. Their opinion has to be heard, and their analysis of others is not withheld. God expects us to be careful with our words even when there is cause. Not only is this a matter of character, but it is also the vital attitude that God is seeking. Those who think before they speak, look before they leap.
