Excellent Youth Day and Winter Social Held in Southern Minnesota
On Feb. 25, 2012, the Southern Minnesota congregation hosted the 15th Annual Youth Day and Winter Social at Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch near Stewartville, Minnesota. This year’s theme was Hawaiian. Services started at 3 p.m., and the young people participated in song leading, opening and closing prayers, three short sermonettes and special music.
After a wonderful sermon given by our pastor David Schreiber, reminding our youth of the dangers of alcohol, drugs, smoking and other peer pressure risks, a Hawaiian meal was served. The Luau meal included smoked brisket on a bun, salads, fruits and veggies and tropical desserts.
After the meal, families enjoyed sleigh rides and the youth participated in snow tubing. Following those events a variety show was enjoyed by young and old. The variety show included a variety of acts; a piano piece, a song, many skits, a hula dance, a cat story, some jokes and the limbo.
Our high attendance set a record for this annual event: 142. Those in attendance came from the Southern Minnesota, La Crosse, Wisconsin, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and from the Twin Cities congregations. The Minnesota weather was clear, cool, sunny and perfect for travel.
The social was a huge success because of the efforts of so many who volunteered to serve their brothers and sisters. Everyone went home inspired and smiling, in spite of being tired after a wonderful day with family.
