Spokane Family Ski Weekend
The Spokane Family Ski Weekend (held Jan. 16-18, 2015) is an annual event hosted by the Spokane church, inviting northwest outlying areas. The event started with a Friday evening teen/young adult Bible study by Paul Moody, an elder in the Spokane area. Afterwards families found their guest homes, and several teens converged for sleepovers at three host family locations. Sabbath services were held at the West Central Community Center, and while everybody found dinner on their own, the surprise activity “Theatre-in-the-Round” was being set up. New York Dreams—a play purchased and greatly ad-libbed by eight local “comedians” (Church members)—was presented as guests enjoyed a lavish dessert buffet. More than an hour of fun and laughter, the presenters seemed to enjoy their roles as much as those they were entertaining.
The following day snow activities were scheduled at Silver Mountain Resort, and those brave enough to challenge the icy slopes skied and snowboarded. Others chose the warmth of the lodge, watching the game, enjoying pizza, and fellowshipping. The weekend was concluded with a fajita dinner hosted at the Iiams’ home. Several families extended their weekend, leaving Monday as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day pre-empted school. Plans for next year’s surprise entertainment are already under way; guaranteed to be loads of fun.
