2016 Feast of Tabernacles Report
Montego Bay, Jamaica
For several of the brethren this was their first Feast of Tabernacles, and for others, they were celebrating 50-plus years. We were encouraged to “[each day] just do a little bit more to love God with all your heart, mind, and strength—to spend just a bit more time meditating, praying, studying God’s Word, [and] serving others.”
Fellowship opportunities were abundant: a ladies mingle, teen meet-and-greet, Jamaican-hosted afternoon at a nearby villa, and youth/family day, which ended with a fun show featuring local and overseas talent. Buffet meals and tours also provided time to share experiences.
A highlight for 13 overseas brethren was visiting an inland orphanage that houses 36 youth (ages 7-32) with mental and physical disabilities. We interacted with several, talking and helping them with puzzles, and even though they couldn’t converse, they clearly spoke the language of love with their smiles and hugs. We were also able to donate toiletries, clothing, music CDs and money.
The festival music was especially inspiring, with many participating in the choir, children’s choir and a variety of smaller groups to praise God. We didn’t want the Feast to end, so many gathered after the last service singing hymns for almost an hour!
We look forward to next year’s Feast with even more opportunities to fellowship and serve. We hope you join us as we help the work’s efforts to grow in Jamaica!
