"The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tests the hearts" (Proverbs 17:3, NKJV).

God does what no crucible or furnace can do. They can only test silver and gold, but God tests the human heart through the trials He allows. In the process of testing, He removes the impure dross in us and refines our lives until He sees more godly character - which is the great purpose for having been created.
