[Steve Myers] Titus was the conquering general who defeated Jerusalem in 70 AD. This arch that I’m standing in front of commemorates that victory over Jerusalem. Now, one of the reasons that’s important is because of some of the depictions that are inside of this arch. In fact, what’s in this arch should be a faith-builder for all of us. Inside of the arch, it depicts the Romans carrying items away from Jerusalem – items like the menorah, the candlestick, the golden candlestick from the temple. It also shows the silver trumpets. It shows other accoutrements from the temple that the Romans carried away in that great victory.

Now, one of the reasons it’s a faith-builder is because of what Jesus prophesied about the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. And here we can find that example in Luke chapter 21. It says, “Some spoke of the temple to Jesus” – this is of course before the destruction, Luke 21:5 – “how beautiful it was adorned, with beautiful stones and donations. And He said, ‘These things which you see, the days will come in which not one stone shall be left upon another that shall not be thrown down’” (Luke 21:5-6)

Well, that happened in Titus’ victory over Jerusalem. In fact, we have the proof of fulfilled prophecy in Christ that should build our faith. We have the proof in these items that were carried away that the temple was real, the candlestick was real, the trumpets were real. These were real things, they’re not a made-up myth. And so those things should be a faith-builder. In fact, look it up online – you can see those pictures on a website. Look up the Arch of Titus and you’ll see those beautiful things that were taken from the temple. And as you see those things, remember: it should be something that can build our faith.
