With winter around the corner, some helpful parallels can be drawn by examining frost.

[Steve Myers] There's a section of scripture in the Old Testament that reminds me of this time of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. So if you live in the Northern Hemisphere, think of this verse at this time of the year. This is in Exodus better write it down. Exodus 16:14, in this whole little section, it makes this reference and I think of this time of the year. It says, "When the layer of dew lifted, there was on the surface of the wilderness, a small round substance, as fine as frost on the ground." Now, what is that talking about? This is talking about the time that God gave manna to the children of Israel. In fact, when they looked in verse 15, it says, "They saw it and said to one another, 'What is it?' For they didn't know what it was." And so here God is providing them manna, providing them food, so they can survive in the wilderness.

They didn't know what it was. So they called it manna. What's it? What is it? Well, it's like frost. When it lifted, it looked white kind of like frost. In fact, older translations call it hoarfrost is what it looked like hoary white, like a white-headed person. A hoary-headed individual is one with white hair. Well, this was like frost, it was white, and kind of fine and flaky. Now this time of the year, in the northern hemisphere, you're gonna wake up in the morning, and you're gonna see this white stuff on the ground, you probably won't say, "Well, what is it?" You're gonna say, "That's frost."

But here's what I want you to think about when you see that frost, think of bread from heaven, that that dew has left this fine frost on the ground. And we can think of God's provision.

In fact, when we look to John 6:35, Christ says, "He is the bread from heaven," not the manna that came down like frost in the Old Testament, but He gives us spiritual life. So next time you wake up in the morning and you see that frost on the ground, think of our Savior Jesus Christ. Think of God's provision. He not only provides our physical needs, but He looks after our spiritual needs and blesses us.

That's BT Daily. Will see you next time.
