They Sang a New Song

Our congregations are blessed to have individuals and teams of individuals blended into choirs who can present special music that praise and honor God during our holy convocation services.  Special music is an offering of praise, respect and esteem that is expressed musically to the Eternal God.

The apostle John was inspired by God in a vision to see a brand-new song being presented in front of the very throne of God in heaven. This set of scriptures provides us with great insight into how we can also praise God musically.  The stage is set when we see that a revelation from God about the future was sealed in a scroll that could not be opened.  An angel loudly asked, "Who is worthy to open the scroll"?

And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?  (Rev 5:1-2, NKJV)

Most sadly to John, no one was able to open it. John wept much at this situation because he had been told by Christ to write down the things that he saw (Rev 1:19), but now there was no one worthy to unlock the information.

And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon. (Rev 5:3, NKJV)

However, there was one introduced who could open the scroll and unlock the seals so that end time events could be documented for future generations.

But one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals." (Rev 5:5, NKJV)

Jesus Christ had prevailed and was the only one able to open the scroll!

Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. (Rev 5:7, NKJV)

What happened next was an amazing recounting of a heavenly choir, present at God's very throne, bursting out with a majestic, musical expression of acclamation and admiration to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

And they sang a new song, saying:

"You are worthy to take the scroll,

And to open its seals;

For You were slain,

And have redeemed us to God by Your blood

Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,

And have made us kings and priests to our God;

And we shall reign on the earth." (Rev 5:9-10, NKJV)

This choir was singing together in a brand-new song to proclaim the heroic acts of Jesus Christ that will enable all people to be redeemed to God the Father. All groups will be included, the redeemed will be from all tribes, tongues, peoples, and nations, and they will be brought back into a family relationship with God.  Those redeemed will be members of a priestly royal kingdom to serve our God on earth.  The majesty of Christ is further highlighted when a much larger choir begins singing in harmony.

Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice:

"Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

To receive power and riches and wisdom,

And strength and honor and glory and blessing!" (Rev 5:11-12 NKJV)

This is all accomplished by Christ the Lamb of God who deserves tremendous admiration and worship in the words being sung.

"Blessing and honor and glory and power

Be to Him who sits on the throne,

And to the Lamb, forever and ever!"

Then the four living creatures said, "Amen!" And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever. (Rev 5:13b-14, NKJV)

It is a blessing to have special music in our congregations, expressed with the qualities of majestic praise, glory, and honor to Jesus Christ and God the Father that we see highlighted in Revelation 5.

Thank you to all who are serving to bring special music to our services. Those who direct, compose, sing, play instruments, provide the sound or webcast. Hope all have a very restful and meaningful Sabbath.

Blessings of Assembling

It is an incredible blessing to assemble with members in our congregations!

In Leviticus 23:3, God proclaims the Sabbath to be a holy convocation, a calling together for a sacred assembly.  We each can receive blessings when we assemble on God's Sabbaths, and we can be instruments of blessings to other members that God has placed in the body of Christ.

Let's consider the blessings through the exhortation given in the book of Hebrews to not forsake the assembling of ourselves together.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.  And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:23-25, NKJV)

This passage includes at least three blessings we can experience when come together on God's Sabbaths.

1.           The blessing of maintaining a firm grip on the confession of our hope without wavering.

We are exhorted to hold fast to our confession of our hope which directs our minds to the personal covenant we each made with God when we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. That covenant that was sealed when God granted His Holy Spirit to us.

When we assemble in our weekly Sabbath service, we can be encouraged by messages expounding insights into God's word and we can sing praises to our great God. We can also bow our heads in unison in our opening and closing prayers which respectfully request, on behalf of the gathered congregation, for God's presence, direction, and blessing on the speaking and hearing of God's words.

These are blessings that can strengthen our firm grip on our calling, our election, and our hope that comes in our relationship with our Father through His Son Jesus Christ.

2.           The blessing of stirring up love and good works.

We live in a time where love and concern for others is declining all around us.  However, as we assemble on God's Sabbaths, we are blessed as our interactions inspire love for one another. We give each other hugs, experience opportunities to serve and encourage each other to good works.

When we see others providing valuable service for the greater community we are inspired!  Perhaps you might observe someone making an extra effort to pick up an older member for services, someone bringing a special food plate, the usual suspects dutifully setting up the sound and webcasting systems each week with no fanfare, or those who practice many hours to provide special music.  You may never know how your example stirs up love and good works in your congregation!

3.           The blessing of being exhorting and encouraging.

Over the years we can all likely remember times where we personally received a lot of encouragement from our fellow church members.   It might have been a truly warm smile on a freezing day, a compliment on something accomplished the previous week, or someone letting us know with care that they were praying us.  Personally, I am encouraged when I see older members who travel up to an hour to church services and then are visibly fired up when hearing God's word taught.

As we see the Day approaching let's consider the ways we can encourage all - the teens, the mothers with small children, the widows, the singles, those who are physically well but very stressed, or those experiencing some of the trials of life. God places each member in the body to encourage and contribute to edifying the other members.  When we assemble, we can be an incredible instrument of blessing to our fellow members.  What we will discover when we do this, is that in return, we will prove that the words of the Lord Jesus stand true, "it is more blessed to give than to receive".

For those due to age and health cannot attend services, as well as for those who at times require rest at home to rejuvenate, we are blessed to have the webcast of services available. It is an incredible blessing to assemble with members in our congregations!

As we end the week, we thank God for sanctifying the seventh day to rest from our weekly responsibilities and from the stresses we see in this world

Congregation

Our congregation strives to follow the instruction Jesus Christ gave in Matthew 4:4: But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”

So we focus on studying the Scriptures, both Old and New, to better understand what God has said. And then we strive to apply those instructions in our...
