×Bastrop, Texas
It is a blessing from God to be able to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. This year God has worked it out to make His name abide (Deuteronomy 14:23) in the small town of Bastrop, Texas. It is God’s desire that we keep the Feast each year so that we can be reminded of our need to fear the Lord our God always.
You may not have heard of the town of Bastrop, but it is one of the state’s oldest towns. It was established by Stephen Austin, the Father of Texas itself. In 1837, it was named Bastrop after the town’s earliest and most important ally, Phillip Bogel, the Baron of Bastrop.
After many years of effort, Bastrop succeeded in attracting a rail line in 1886 which prompted many modernizations, including a bridge over the Colorado River, an opera house and a bank. The 20th century began with the development of a lignite coal mine just north of town that led to further prosperity and numerous immigrants from around the world.
In the 1930’s, Depression era policies led to the development of two beautiful parks, Bastrop State Park, and adjoining Buescher State Park, which still contribute great recreational opportunities including camping, hiking, picnicking and bird watching.
In the 21st century, downtown Bastrop has continued to keep its old town charm with many historic homes and churches nestled among tree-lined streets. The state parks, three golf courses, and access to Lake Bastrop and the Colorado River put several outdoor adventures within easy reach of Feast-goers.
Bastrop offers those attending the sight an excellent meeting place, including plenty of parking in one large parking lot close to the meeting hall. It also offers a large modern, well-lit hall for services. The meeting hall is perfect for group activities for families, teens and young adults.
Bastrop offers affordable housing, including some condos and kitchen-equipped units. There are no housing properties adjacent to the convention center, but most are nearby and an easy drive away. A variety of restaurants offer Tex-Mex, barbecue, German cuisine and traditional fares.
The Feast of Tabernacles is always a highlight for the people of God. The small town of Bastrop will provide a new and most pleasant place for God’s people to meet in 2022. We hope you can join us for the Feast in Bastrop, Texas, this year.
For those flying in, the Austin airport is only 30 minutes away. Temperatures range anywhere from upper 50s to mid-80s.
