When it came time for God to deliver the children of Israel from bondage, it came at a great cost in human suffering brought on by stubborn rebellion against God on the part of the Egyptians slave masters and the inability to trust God by the Israelites. This led to their worst nightmares. As Christians today, what could be our worst nightmare? Does our approach to Christian life consist of a one-foot-in-the-world and one-foot-in-the-church attitude? If so, we could one day be confronted with the worst possible of nightmares, Jesus Christ's words to us, "Depart from me...I never knew you." During this Feast of Unleavened Bread and at all times, let us draw close to God and deleaven our lives.

William Vernich

(1931-2024)

Bill Vernich was an elder who served the United Church of God congregations in Nashville and Jackson, TN as well as Bowling Green, KY. He was a graduate of Miami University (Ohio) with a B.S. in Business Administration, majoring in Marketing and Merchandising. He and his wife Carol have five children and eight grandchildren. They were baptized in 1972 and he was ordained an elder in 1984.
