The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke all describe John's prophecy that One would come who was much greater than he, following that with a description of the Messiah's coming judgment in a vivid picture of separating the wheat from the chaff—a reference to a number of earlier prophecies. This is followed by their description of Christ's baptism in the Jordan and several miracles that few realize are remarkable fulfillment of prophecy. In these few verses, we see Matthew, Mark, Luke, John the Baptist, Jesus Christ and God the Father all using a particular method of teaching called "Remez" to point us to deeper truths than what we see on the surface.
