In this study, we take an in-depth look at Satan's temptation of Jesus Christ in the wilderness. We look at the setting, the stakes involved, Jesus' actions that point us to Moses, Elijah and the Israelites' 40 years in the wilderness, the nature of the temptations and how they apply to us today, the context of Jesus' answers and the lessons they hold for us, and why Jesus went through this temptation and testing.

Scott Ashley is managing editor of Beyond Today magazine, United Church of God booklets and its printed Bible Study Course. He and his wife, Connie, live near Denver, Colorado. 
Mr. Ashley attended Ambassador College in Big Sandy, Texas, graduating in 1976 with a theology major and minors in journalism and speech. It was there that he first became interested in publishing, an industry in which he has worked for 50 years.
