Jesus’ statement, “You are the salt of the earth” meant a great deal to His disciples of the first century. Sadly, the powerful impact of His words can easily be missed in our modern world. This sermon discusses six beneficial qualities and one dangerous quality of salt. Christians are to be those who: live the way of God, preserve God’s values, bring a zest to the lives of others around us, and facilitate healing in the lives of those around us. Let us also be warned by Christ’s words. Just as salt can destroy life, so our lives can become toxic to others if we should ever turn back from walking in the steps of Jesus Christ.
